What is a Grenada passport?

Each country issues its citizens with a travel document known as a passport, which allows the holder to travel internationally. A Grenada passport is issued in accordance with the Grenada Constitution and the Grenadian Citizenship Act of 1976 (Cap 54). Two types of passports are issued in Grenada: A regular passport and a diplomatic passport.

Regular passport: Can be applied for by all citizens of Grenada.

Diplomatic passport: Only issued to Grenadian officials (the Governor-General, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and other Government Ministers of Grenada) and Grenadian diplomats who are accredited overseas. Eligible dependents of these diplomats and citizens who reside in Grenada and travel overseas for diplomatic work can also receive diplomatic passports.

Validity period: A Grenada passport has to be renewed every five years.

Obtain a US E-2 Visa as a Grenada Citizen

While Grenada citizens can’t enter the US without a visa, they are the only Caribbean passport holders who are eligible for the E-2 Treaty Investor Visa. This visa is valid for up to five years and allows you to legally live and work in the US. Your spouse and children under 21 years of age are also allowed to accompany you, and your children can even study there. As the name suggests, the visa requires you to make a substantial investment in a business in the US.

Grenada is the only Caribbean country where citizens are eligible to apply for this visa. Citizens from other Caribbean countries are only eligible to apply for the US EB-5 or L-1 visas, which have more complicated application processes and are arguably less economical for applicants.

As the E-2 Visa is a non-immigrant visa and is not related to the Green Card, meaning it does not provide a direct path to residency in the US. However, it can be renewed indefinitely as long as Grenada maintains its treaty status with the US (and you continue to meet the visa’s eligibility criteria).

You can also apply for a B-3 Tourist Visa, which is valid for up to ten years. This visa allows you to visit the US for a period of up to 180 days in a year, during which you can travel around the country and even attend conferences.
